About the Authors

Marina Caldarone is a freelance theatre and radio drama director who has also been actively involved in actor training in the UK since 1985.

She is Drama Director for Crying Out Loud, a production company making CDs for actors entering the voice industry, as well as working as an acting coach, and lecturing regularly on theatre.
Maggie Lloyd-Williams has acted in a number of plays at the National Theatre as well as at Soho Theatre, the Tricycle and Shakespeare’s Globe, all in London.

She has also appeared in several British television series, including Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Murphy’s Law, The Vice, Red Cap, Silent Witness and Casualty.

We’re thrilled with the success of Actions: The Actors’ Thesaurus. We knew it was an invaluable tool for actors and directors – we had been using it ourselves for years before committing it to print. But we didn’t really anticipate quite how well it would be received by actors at all stages of their careers: from BTEC Theatre students, through students at drama schools throughout Britain (where it is now widely listed as a set text) and at many drama schools in the US, to well-established actors across the board(s).

Actioning is now a vital language for actors, and common parlance where once it was in danger of becoming a bit rarified and elite. And as we continue to develop it in the rehearsal room and in workshops, our passion for it only grows – we’re always looking ahead to the next updated version. It’s been such a pleasure to be part of rediscovering, and refining, the business of Actioning.
